New Zealand deer velvet is the ideal health supplement to revitalise your pet!
Velvet has been used for over 2000 years as a core ingredient in Oriental medicine. Only in recent years has clinical research been used to prove much of what has been believed for many years – that deer antler velvet has many properties that can help people and animals to enjoy healthier lives.
Existing research has shown that velvet can not only support general health, but support athletic performance, immune function, and tolerance to cold in small animals. Also, specific research on dogs has shown that velvet can have positive effects in supporting joint mobility.
Aside from clinical research results, many anecdotal reports also suggest velvet has positive effects on animal performance, health and wellbeing.
Other scientific studies have found that velvet can assist in the following:
- Supporting healthy joint function
A recent scientific study by the University of Montreal showed that deer velvet provided considerable support for joint mobility, gait and overall performance in dogs with impaired mobility. It concluded that the administration of deer velvet was beneficial for supporting mobility (Moreau et al., 2004).
- Support for red blood cell count
- Tolerance of low temperatures
- Support for the immune system
- Support for the response to stress
- Support for liver health
- Support for joint mobility
- Support for bone health
Aside from clinical research results, many anecdotal reports also suggest velvet has positive effects on:
- Athletic performance
- Coat condition
- Skin health
- Health and wellbeing
- Improved energy levels
New Zealand deer velvet pet products are not just used in New Zealand but have taken off across the world. Pet products are exported to Australia, Hong Kong, Israel, Europe, USA and Canada.
One of Israel’s specialist companion animal veterinarian’s swears by the velvet supplement he uses for joint mobility and skin integrity.
A prototype dog food using New Zealand velvet as a functional ingredient was trialled in one of the world’s most extreme dog races in March 2006 providing excellent results.
The 1,850 km race run day and night over 9 – 12 days was beneficial to both the animals endurance and stamina, - a key element which aided their 8th place finish, out of 83 teams. One of the formula’s developers, Geoff Williamson explains “it’s also great for temperature endurance, which is important as a lot of the racing takes place at night.”
Deer velvet supplements for pets are most commonly in tablet form but can also be administered as powder, capsules. Other deer products such as deer sinew are also renowned for their effect on pets.
